Coach AL Hoop was a lifelong resident of Marshalltown and loyal Bobcat who enjoyed a variety of sports, but his personal love was baseball.
Coach Hoop began his career leading teams at the Marshalltown Little League. By the time he was done, Coach had become a member of the Little League Board of Directors and served as President of the organization in 1996 when a Marshalltown team made its only appearance at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.
Football and basketball were two sports that Coach Hoop was in charge of at the middle school and high school levels, but his decade of work with the Bobcat baseball program was what he was most proud of. Coach Hoop served as MHS’s head freshman coach for 10 years and the teams he groomed went on to play in three consecutive state title games and won the Class 4A State Championship in 2002.
After retiring from his high school position, Coach Hoop worked with the Bobcat 7th grade baseball program for another six years. In all, AL Hoop had a hand in one Marshalltown baseball program or another for nearly 50 years.
Since 2016, Coach Hoop has been responsible for providing an annual $1,000 scholarship which is awarded to a Bobcat baseball senior who exhibits good work habits and is a positive member of the team.
We are proud to attach Coach AL Hoop’s name to this workout facility.
Thank you for a lifetime of service to Marshalltown baseball Coach Hoop!!
